RCET beneficiary performs at Edinburgh Fringe

This August concert pianist and RCET Grant recipient, Christopher Guild, will perform his debut Fringe Festival recital at Stockbridge Church, Edinburgh. ‘A Really Short Introduction to Scotland’s Piano Music’ will focus on Scottish classical and folk piano music.

Originating from Speyside, Christopher was musically talented from a young age, gaining a place at St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh. Unfortunately, whilst at school in Edinburgh, Christopher’s father passed away from cancer. With financial support from RCET Christopher managed to continue his studies at the salubrious Royal College of Music, London, and has had a successful career as a touring solo pianist, and continues to teach music at a number of institutions.

The RCET has played quite a big part in steering me towards this critical career path

Christopher’s love has always been for Scottish classical and folk piano music and he told us “to most people, Scottish piano music is a very rare thing; Scottish composers certainly aren’t given the attention they deserve. The music of Scotland provides me with a certain personal and artistic identity. The RCET has played quite a big part in steering me towards this critical career path.”

About the concert

Renowned Scottish pianist Christopher Guild offers listeners the chance to become acquainted with a burgeoning force in Scotland’s culture: its classical music. Drawing upon a vast range of influence from Gaelic history, Sephardic Jewish song and late Romantic expressionism, this is a unique event in the Fringe’s classical music diary for 2018. This unmissable concert will feature works by Sir James Macmillan, Ronald Stevenson and Master of the Queen’s Music, Judith Weir.
