Scottish Child Payment Open for Applications November 2020

Supporting Armed Forces families who are experiencing poverty and financial hardship is at the heart of RCET’s work. We are therefore pleased that following delays, the new Scottish Child Payment will open for applications from November 2020, with first payments beginning from the end of February 2021. Eligible families with a child under 6 will be able to apply for £10 per child, per week. There are no limits on the number of eligible children supported by the payment. The intention is to roll out the payment to eligible families with children under 16 by the end of 2022.

This is certainly a step in the right direction in efforts to address child poverty in Scotland with Scottish Government modelling suggesting 30,000 children will be lifted out of poverty by the payment. However, we strongly advocate that this payment must sit alongside continuing wide-ranging work aimed at tackling, reducing and preventing child poverty in Scotland.

Apply for the Scottish Child Payment on the Scottish Government’s website.
